Interested in just completing additional coursework in an NP track and already have at least an MSN degree? The UMKC SONHS offers post-graduate certificates in all of our NP tracks.

How Are Classes Conducted?

UMKC’s graduate programs are designed to give professionals flexibility. Students use the Web-based software, Canvas, for their online courses, which allows them to engage in interactive learning with faculty and classmates. Students can log onto Canvas to find homework, class assignments, a class list, a syllabus and more at any time. Courses are conducted in synchronous and asynchronous modes depending on the professor and class.

We designed the graduate programs to give professionals flexibility.

How Do I Apply?

Are you convinced that the UMKC MSN program is right for you? Here is what you need to know to apply and enroll:

Admission Requirements

  • MSN or DNP from a college or university nationally recognized by a nursing accrediting agency (CCNE or AACN)
  • The GPA required for admission is a 3.2 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Current unencumbered licensure in the state in which the student completes clinical requirements.
  • Personal interviews may be requested.
  • The following are the common prerequisite graduate-level coursework to be completed prior to or as part of the certificate program of study. These courses may be from your MSN graduate program or completed at UMKC with your certificate hours:
 
  1. Advanced pathophysiology
  2. Advanced pharmacology/applied pharmacology
  3. Advanced health assessment across the lifespan
  4. Diagnostic Reasoning for the APRN
  5. Health promotion

 
Application Deadlines

 

Applications are processed in the order they are received. Earlier completion of your application increases the likelihood of early acceptance. 

 

  • October 20, 2023 (for early decision/acceptance) to start coursework in January or June 2024
  • March 8, 2024 (for regular acceptance) to start coursework in June 2024
  • March 8, 2024 (Fall 2022 start for Nurse Educator & Post-MSN Certificates ONLY)
 
Students can apply 9-12 months before their planned start date. All required materials are due by 5 pm CST on the due date.

  1. Make sure you meet the admission requirements, listed to the left.
  2. Fill out the UMKC Admissions Application. 
  3. Submit an official transcript to the Office of Admissions. Do not submit your application to SoHNS.
  4. Submit NursingCAS application (http://www.nursingcas.org/).
  5. Further requirements may be needed depending on your track of choice. Please click on the Learn More link below to request more information.
