Why Choose UMKC?

More Successful Students

  • Students enrolled in our MSN program have a 99% pass rate. Our curriculum brings everyday experience to the classroom. We succeed when our students succeed.

More Career Options

  • An online Master of Science Nursing (MSN) degree from the UMKC School of Nursing and Health Studies will put you on the path to professional growth, leadership and social advocacy. The MSN prepared Nurse Practitioner is ready to assume responsibility and accountability for the health promotion, assessment, diagnosis, and management of patient problems. These include the prescription of pharmacologic agents within a specialty area of clinical practice such as Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP), Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP), Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP), Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), and Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP).

More Flexibility

  • Our MSN program is an affordable, nationally ranked program that can be completed online or on campus, depending on your program. In many cases, work from the comfort of your own home while you receive the same quality education as our on-campus students.

More Innovative

  • The UMKC MSN program is recognized for its innovative and effective use of technology. Our program will ensure you are up-to-date with the latest in nursing and health care. We have been using distance education for greater than twenty years and are very good at it.
  • UMKC is one of 30 Universities in the U.S. that has nursing, medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy degree programs on the same campus; thus interprofessional collaboration with faculty from other health care disciplines, for educational and research activities, is possible. We have prominent  faculty engaged in research at local, national, and international levels. Our faculty are on-line certified thus insuring a positive learning experience.

Less Expensive

  • Our program is also extremely affordable. We offer in-state tuition in states we are authorized to deliver our MSN program. U.S. News & World Report recognized us as one of the top 10 schools in the nation for affordable online graduate nursing programs.

How Does The Program Work?

The UMKC MSN program is extremely flexible to fit your lifestyle.

UMKC support services are available to all distance education students. Our online students are treated the same as our on-campus students, and every student is assigned an Academic Advisor and Faculty Mentor.

You will love learning from our highly qualified, online certified, clinically active faculty. We also offer peer mentoring, and plenty of opportunities for student to student interaction.

The Value of Real-World Experience
We understand the value of practical, real-world experience, and while many online degrees struggle to offer this, at UMKC we pride ourselves on offering more interactive experience to our MSN students than any other program.

POST-MSN Certificate information:

How Are Classes Conducted?

We offer flexibility, personalized attention and mentoring from faculty and 24/7 NetTutor student support. There are required on-campus clinical residencies that are scheduled during the semesters you are enrolled in a clinical course. Faculty will work with students to make sure they are informed of these requirements with enough time to modify their schedules. Our courses are conducted online, with some requiring class/chat times. Class/chat times are scheduled on Thursdays or Fridays and are communicated well in advance. Students use the Web-based software, Blackboard, for their online courses. Courses are conducted in synchronous and asynchronous modes depending on the professor and class. You can log on to find homework, class assignments, a class list, a syllabus and more at any time. The program allows students to engage in interactive learning with faculty and other students in an online platform.

We designed the graduate programs to give professionals flexibility.
